Medication can be incredibly beneficial to those suffering from depression, but only when it works. Sometimes, that’s not the case. If you’ve been trying therapy, different medications, maybe even strict or excessive lifestyle changes that only add stress without bringing relief and still found yourself struggling, there are other options.
That’s exactly why we offer Spravato® treatment in Santa Rosa. It’s a different kind of approach for a different kind of depression, one that hasn’t responded to traditional options.
So, What Is Spravato®?
Spravato® is the brand name for esketamine, an FDA-approved nasal spray that’s used in combination with an oral antidepressant.
Here’s the key difference: Spravato® targets glutamate receptors in the brain, which may help improve depression symptoms faster than traditional antidepressants.
It’s approved for:
- Treatment-resistant depression (TRD)
- Major depressive disorder (MDD) with acute suicidal thoughts or behaviors
What to Expect at Siyan Clinical
Spravato® can’t be picked up at the pharmacy or taken at home. It’s only available through REMS-certified clinics, like ours at Siyan Clinical in Santa Rosa.
Here’s how it works:
1) Initial consultation
We’ll sit down with you to go over your health history, past treatments, and whether Spravato® makes sense for you.
2) In-office treatments
If you’re a good candidate, you’ll come in for regular sessions where you self-administer the nasal spray in a safe, supervised setting.
3) Observation period
After each treatment, we monitor you for at least two hours. You’ll be in a calm, private space with clinical staff nearby the entire time.
Is Spravato® Right for Me?
You might be a candidate if:
- You’ve tried two or more antidepressants without meaningful improvement
- Your depression feels unshakable, even with therapy or support
- You’re navigating thoughts of hopelessness or suicidal ideation
We don’t take shortcuts, and we won’t recommend Spravato® unless we believe it’s a safe, appropriate next step. But for many people, it’s been the first real turning point after years of struggle.
Side Effects & Safety Info
Like any medication, Spravato® can come with side effects. These may include:
- Dizziness or nausea
- Increased blood pressure (temporarily)
- Feeling sleepy, detached, or “out of it”
- Headache or feeling flushed
That’s why each session includes on-site medical monitoring and support. We’re here to make sure you feel safe, heard, and cared for every step of the way.
